St. Patrick's Day

Apparently St. Patrick’s Day is a huge holiday for Ben this year. We have been hearing about leprechauns for weeks now. Last year the concept was a little scary to him, but this year it seems to be really enjoyable. They had the opportunity to make leprechaun traps to take to school and Ben’s was very well thought out. It would start with a box and he had plans to draw a pot of gold and a rainbow to lure the leprechaun over. He planned to put something on the floor like markers to make the leprechaun slip and then fall into the box. He wanted to make sure the leprechaun couldn’t get back out so we added duct tape to the floor. Ben also decided to add a bowl of water so when the leprechaun fell in he might not be able to get back out if he was trying to tread water. So one half has sticky tape and the other half has a small swimming pool. He chose a green bowl so the leprechaun would just be attracted to the color and not realize that it was part of a trap. The box lid used a paper towel cardboard tube to prop it open and would then fall when the leprechaun fell in and close the lid.

Sounds like a pretty fool proof trap, but when there is magic involved, you can never be too sure. He set the trap up at school and when the class came back to check on it, there was green water in the bowl and green glitter everywhere. Nothing was caught this year, but the kids had a blast checking out their traps and enjoyed the entire experience.

We were also able to enjoy some green treats at home later that weekend and made sure to wear our green for about three days straight so we were sure not to get pinched.
