The kids started the weekend with art projects on Friday night. Elizabeth decorated a shamrock for school and Ben had a giant dinosaur themed project that is still in progress. Ben had also made a huge discovery at school that day that he loves beef and cheese tacos. “It is like a giant chip wrapped around only meat and cheese!” Most families wouldn’t think much of this, but we were thrilled to add this to our list of meals that we can all enjoy.
Saturday morning the kids both got haircuts. It is only E’s second haircut so it is still a new thing for us. She did fair and they both enjoyed treats when they were done. After a trip to the grocery store we headed home to watch KU play Missouri (men’s basketball). Ben sometimes watches games, but he was totally in the mood to watch every minute of this one. He jumped around and cheered loudly at the TV the whole time. I think that came with the genes! We took a break during half time for naps and resumed the game when the kids woke up. After we finished up the game it was time to head to the bowling alley for a surprise birthday party for one of our good friends. Ben was so excited to bowl and did such a great job. He also discovered that he loves cheesy breadsticks since they are like a skinny pizza! Go figure. We ate, bowled, caught up with old friends and enjoyed a few arcade games. Dad won the kids a light up bouncy ball that is quite the prized toy at our house right now.
Sunday morning was a new schedule at church and Mom got to help with the kids’ worship time. It is also fairly new for us that Elizabeth goes to kids’ church with Ben now and it is really fun to see both of them learning and doing the activities together. Ben is very protective of her and often announces that she is "already two" and whatever new thing she is doing. The weather was a little cool, but very nice so we were able to play outside for a while after nap time. Ben really wanted to bowl again, but was satisfied with going for a bike ride and playing outside instead. We ended the evening with spaghetti and meatballs, a call to Grandma and Grandpa and the Imagination Movers concert on TV. You can’t beat that in the eyes of a four-year-old and Elizabeth was more than happy to enjoy all of the above right next to “brudder”. As we were trying to wind the weekend down, requests were made for more biking, more bowling, the aquarium, and a train ride. Mom told Ben that we would get our calendars out this week and start making plans. It might be a busy spring if Ben plans it.
