“Is today my birthday?” We have been hearing this for some time now. Finally the grand day has come! We had been asking Ben what kind of party he wanted to have. He very plainly proclaimed that he would have a Curious George party with Mickey Mouse presents. Well, then. Let the planning begin! We found that Mickey Mouse presents meant that he wanted some of his gifts to be wrapped in Mickey Mouse paper, so of course we obliged this request.
Ben was quite excited about his party. The celebration started Friday with a cupcake party at school. We got to go sing with his class to him and play for a while afterwards. It was a great time!
Saturday was the party with mostly family and a couple of special friends from church. The kids played on the swingset while the younger siblings played on a blanket nearby. Elizabeth thought that grass was her new best friend and apparently does not have the same texture/touching issues as Ben had at that age. Ben wore his party hat nearly all day and received many fun presents that he was thrilled with. He even proclaimed “this is what I told you I wanted!” Just can’t beat that reaction.
Sunday was his actual birthday and Ben chose to eat at the “hummus restaurant” for his birthday lunch. Gotta love a boy with good taste!
Ben is quite the character these days. He is learning to tell jokes (his own version) and really likes to laugh and be silly. Ben is really enjoying his music class at school and comes home singing new songs all the time. If anyone can tell us what the “mall (moth?)” song is, we would love to know. Apparently Mom should know the words and be able to help him with it at home.
Ben is learning new sports in Amazing Athletes each week at school. He was really excited during football week, but has also enjoyed hockey, tennis and a couple of other sports. Ben loves to climb his rock wall on his new playground at home. Mom gets a little nervous, but he is really pretty skilled at getting up and down by himself. He also got a scooter for his birthday and can use one foot to push himself on it “just like the boy on the box”. He continues to love to be outside and has been asking for a while if we could have a campfire. Luckily, his local grandparents live on some land and made this possible recently. We enjoyed roasted marshmallows and making the fire “grow” by watching Grandpa David add logs.
Ben looks forward to Halloween. He has decided to be the Man in the Yellow Hat from Curious George, which of course does not exist in children’s sizes. Hopefully some creativity and the help of Grandma Lyn will be able to fulfill this wish!
Hopefully posting will become more regular. We got in a post-vacation/pre-birthday blur and let the time get away.
